Necklace by Northern Irish jewellery maker Autumn Aurelia -"Laser-cut jewellery inspired by nature, myth, and more".
From the maker:
If you're like me, you've always felt that society shames you for your period. We're not "supposed" to talk about it, particularly not the bloody details in "polite company." Growing up, my father regularly shamed me for talking about my period and refused to buy me pads, which always made me feel so wrong and dirty. Living with endometriosis, I couldn't help but be vocal about my painful periods, but over time he made me feel less and less able to communicate how I was feeling.
I think, because of that, my dream customer for these earrings would be a father, purchasing them for his daughter (along with some pads or tampons!) as a way of breaking that invisible barrier of shame and stigma.
But honestly, I know we probably have a long way to go in that regard, so, for now, I'll settle for women buying them for themselves or friends, to empower and celebrate ourselves and our bodies.
These earrings are comprised of hand-poured pearlescent marble acrylic, making each one truly unique, and vibrant glitter red, then finished off with a mirror red blood drop.
